My distaste for Tcl/Tk helped me leave the EDA business. Some backstory: Thanks to Randy Pausch, in the early 90's I was fortunate enough to be exposed to Python and the Tkinter interface to the Tk widget set. With that experience I ended up building large and complex EDA apps for the SoC IP market in the late 90s. Python was the enabler because its language and library features supported programming in the large as opposed to Tcl with its arcane syntax (especially for those with a C background) and minimal library support. I still pity the AEs who write Tcl scripts for EDA tools. |
