Do you think there's a connection to this behaviour and the type of vehicle they drive? With SUVs becoming super huge, maybe people feel that they don't have to stop because they won't be coming off worse in an accident?

I think there’s a non-zero amount of that going on. I’ve had conversations with people who’ve said exactly this about their car choice!
