They did not have control of the blast in the way that all other commercial launches do: with flame trenches, water deluge systems, etc. If the FAA knew that SpaceX could be throwing bus-sized pieces of concrete in the air that could potentially hit the rocket's fuel tanks, I guarantee they would not have approved the launch. |
