Opened site. Chat popped up in the corner and started making sound effects. Closed site.

I guess it doesn't matter if a few people are annoyed, if the end result of these things is a new increase in conversions. But I wish "don't annoy people" was actually in the product requirements.

Most "annoyance blocker" filterlists get these. In this case it's intercom.io which I block with Adguard's Annoyances lists: https://adguard.com/kb/general/ad-filtering/adguard-filters/
I can't imagine using the internet without uBlock Origin, SponsorBlock, and a whole host (no pun intended) of filter lists.
Ah the trusted HN top comment that’s never about the product but a complaint about a minor marketing annoyance on the website.

damn man, that was 2 years ago. I'm not sure what happened to the buyers but looking at MCP's twitter, they're still shipping product and seem to have a player base.
you don't personally know those people anymore?
uBlock Origin on Firefox hid that annoyance for me.
