If concerned about privacy/security during international travel, a good option is to get a burner phone. A cheap android phone is peanuts.
Give it time. One day people will be arrested at borders for "suspicion that they are travelling with a decoy phone".
“Not having a smart phone” already is a warning sign in some countries.

Or just a Nandroid[0][1] backup and flashing the stock rom before you go, then restoring upon return.

[1] I don't know if this is possible with Apple phones, as I don't use them. Perhaps someone could elucidate on the viability of this option for iOS devices?

Well shit, this was my reason not to ever visit the US, but I live in Britain so I'm fucked anyway.
I wish I could laugh, seems the US, UK and Australia are in a competition to see who can out do each other.

What is it with English Speaking Countries ? I guess Canada is OK because of Quebec keeps them sane :)

Apparently not for the Canadian case:

>In a 2010 Quebec Court of Appeal case the court stated that a password compelled from an individual by law enforcement "is inadmissible and that renders the subsequent seizure of the data unreasonable

Quebec for the win :)

France and Belgium also have similar laws backed by imprisonment
Literally been like this for over 15 years, and people were sent to jail from 2009 onwards because of it
