Sometimes I hear these stories, and wonder how people in the future will find these kinds anecdotes and understand them. Will they even be able to discover them? Is there going to be a modern version of the jargon file?

I hadn't thought about that, but you're right. My story probably makes little sense to non-programmers of that time.

Going deeper, most of whatever the 20th/21st century leaves for future historians may very well be indecipherable, if at all recoverable.
