Sorry for the dumb question; but what is the purpose of marketing an open-source library? The more popular a library becomes, the heavier the burden on the maintainer. Why would a maintainer go out of their way to increase the popularity of a library?

Off the top of my head: Career considerations, raising one’s profile, obtaining requests for contract work.

Why would you open source it if you don't want people to use it?
Because you don't mind people using it?
