These notes are in preparation for a post I will make on 5 July 2010 at the Forum on the website the National Humanities Center. I have been posting them on my blog, New Savanna (see URL below). My Forum post will, of course, be an independent and free-standing document; but it will be based largely on ideas in these posts and in the three further posts I am planning to do in the “workshop” phase of this project. It is possible, of course, that my ideas will change when writing the Forum post, but I do not anticipate drastic changes. Note: I have added a new post on memes to version 2: RESET: Where Are Memes? It modifies the position I elaborated in CE 3, 4, 5, and 8.
