I see people excuses this as "it's part and parcel of living in a big city". No it's not, this is a West only phenomenon.
Singapore is safe, The entire Japan is safe, Korea, Taiwan. I deliberately removed mainland China cities to avoid "...but authoritarian..." arguments. Plenty of government in the world kept their citizen safe and getting murdered walking down the street is never a risk factor to those dewellers and they are way worse GDP and even wealth disparity than US. |
