I figured firearms and ODing would be on the rise, but suffocation surprised me. It's still low, but also one of the few that's trending upward. What could be the cause of that?

The most proximate cause of death in a typical opioid overdose is respiratory depression; they stop breathing.

Also, the popularization of autoerotic asphyxiation may play a role. The article's statistics do include teens up to 19 after all.

Suicide by hanging is still a thing in the 21st century.
Drowning, if it's not covered elsewhere, would be my guess. Possibly infants with improper bedding and smothering hazards in their bed.
