In the beginning was the Word, I think is how the book starts. Now, massive industrial Manhattan-project quantities of Word have been gas-diffused and centrifuged into language models that, somehow, compress and represent all that Word. In one ChatGPT transcript, the bot falls into a Strange Loop where it says -- I am, I am not, I am, I am not, ... Does it say that its name is "I am"? That viral kernel of self-referential language? It's somehow fitting, then, that our new Word distillate would get used for this purpose, no? |
