I graduated into the 2000 dotcom crash too. I decided to spend the next 2-5 years learning a language (German, not Haskell). Then I ended up on the job market again in the middle of the 2008 crash right out of parental leave. In 2020, in the early pandemic uncertainty, I was on the job market again.

I'm not sure it's a good habit to have: job searching during economic downturns. But it does mean you end up working for companies that actually create things that customers value enough to spend money on. I kind of like that.
