RSNs got too expensive. Categorically sports are the most popular genre on TV but fewer than 50% of viewers watch them. MLB saw the writing in the wall and invested in a streaming platform early on that got bought by Disney. It might be fair for people who really like sports to pay for them direct-to-consumer but there is also the way you might get some random exposure (like the time I saw a women’s World Cup game between the US and Japan) and that makes you a fan. |
