It's certainly an advantage, but why unfair?

To be sure, there may be an unearned privilege that underlies getting coverage (reporters and news orgs aren't free from bias, after all), but you can't just assume that, and declare all such coverage unfair.

It is a lottery ticket, and winning tickets aren't evenly distributed, but neither do they go only to preordained winners, nor is getting coverage a guarantee of success (though it certainly helps).

Again, it is an advantage, but not necessarily an unfair one.

You can construct an explicitly unfair scenario if you wish (say, a familial relationship with an editor), but absent something like that, I'm not sure there is anything to complain about, even in principle.
