Interesting supposition but the use of oil to create a battery is a one-time operation. Once the battery is manufactured we can recycle, reuse, and repair. Once oil is consumed it's gone. I also take issue with the calculations. For example, 3.2 barrels of oil for battery transportation. The rubric is that this is for ONE Tesla battery. It can be reasonably inferred that battery transportation is done at scale, efficiency, and more than just one battery. Other calculations like the gigafactory construction while not considering other sources of batteries make me suspect these figures are very miscalculated. Today it takes oil to make and do just about anything. A natural resource that is irreplaceable. I'm ok with swapping that for battery technology that has a greater lifecycle. |
