>Even if you say "well the company should just pay more if they've made that value", not all that value manifests directly on the company's bottom line, it includes downstream value, as well as intangible things like worker skills that are more of an abstract societal benefit. This bears emphasizing. The main benefit a company provides is the goods they produce. The money is a measure of how much people value the goods at the time, but the main benefit is in the actual goods themselves. Eg the electric grid is more beneficial than what people pay for it. If the cost of electricity doubled everyone would still keep using a fridge. If the cost of fridges doubled everyone would still keep using a fridge. And that's the success of modern society - all the beneficial stuff we have access to that make our lives a little bit better. |
