In regards to alternate nostril breathing:

The instruction just say to inhale and exhale, which a person might interpret as a partial breath. I was taught that the inhale and exhale for alternate nostril breathing should completely fill the lungs and completely empty the lungs. Don't try to force too much out or force too much in; just be comfortable. The instructions should also state that the flow of air coming into or out of the nose should be steady throught the entire inhale or exhale. It should not start at 100 CFM and as it gets full or empty change to 25 CFM; try to keep it constant.

Also, when starting alternate nostril breathing; one should balance the flow between the left and right nostril. Then do the alternate nostril breathing for 10 cycles. To balance: if the right nostril is more clogged/slower than the left, then breath in throught right and out through the left until it clears and is the same as the left. Do the opposite if the left is more clogged. Note some times, this will not clear/balance out. In those cases, a nasal saline solution works nicely. Also, oxygen advantage nostril unblocking exercise can be used.
