I just wanted to add that an extension is not an extension to the time you have to pay your taxes. So if you file for an extension, don’t pay anything by April 15, and then it turns out you owe $1000 in taxes in October, you will now have to pay $1000 + penalty + interest on the $1000. Filing for an extension only extends the time to file your taxes. Not the time to pay your taxes (I think the one exception to this was when COVID hit, where even the date to pay taxes was extended, but I’m not a 100% sure). |
