Stand in one place, take several pictures as the person walks/rides across, then use Hugin[1] to align the images, outputting each as a TIF. Then import those as layers, and use masking to compose them into the final image with GIMP[2]. If you're more prepared, you could just use a tripod to skip the need for alignment.
