Give it a few years, the scammers will move on to greener pastures and the nerds will keep tinkering. I remember people acting the same way about ecommerce in the early 00s.

What we have learned from other financial markets is that scammers will only move on when there is regulation.

Not just regulation, you need actual enforcement with a high enough likelihood of consequence.

Just look at telephone wire scams. They’re clearly illegal, but if there’s no teeth to prosecute then they’ll keep on coming.
