Yep! This is completely compatible with what I described! The people that use these prepackaged edgy personas often don’t actually believe their own dogma enough to stand behind it. This makes sense because they’re usually not actually expressing personally-held opinions, they are performing a cathartic act of being contrarian in order to cement their position as being both smarter than average and signaling that they’re part of an orthodox group. It’s a lazy performance of disgust for the sake of attention. To further respond to your original question, these people that value performing disgust using pre-digested replacements for personalities can sometimes become dangerous! And there are a lot of them! |
