Yes, it seems like the groups thing isn’t so baffling if you realize that Google groups is also the way groups are created and managed in the g suite (google workspace) system. So it seems less looney that you would use those groups, which likely already exist and are managed by HR, for things like Sysadmins or “EU NOC Support Staff” or “IT Managers” for GCP permissions as well. I agree that outside of the Google workspace ecosystem this becomes a weird quirk but honestly, I would be kind of surprised if that many sizable customers of GCP aren’t already on the G suite too since G suite has much greater share in its market than GCP does. |
