Most Texas Red Chili's originate from a dish called Chile Colorado with deep roots in mexican cuisine. Chile Colorado is served with tortillas and frijoles (pinto beans), and usually some pickled veggies. At some point its not impossible to believe someone went "To hell with it" and just added all of the ingredients to the pot.. but you are correct, there's really no good clear history of how Chili with meat became Chili with beans. Fun fact, chile colorado translated just means colored red chile. Edit: I fixed some typos. |
