The article points to a Twitter account named Two-Word Horror. I clicked on it not expecting much, it's actually quite disturbing.

There is an Emoji Corporation [1], which as far as I can tell exists to try and trick people into thinking they've got to pay them to use emojis. Looks like they got some Danegeld out of Sony Pictures for the Emoji movie.

First thought was how a big movie studio could be duped by that, especially for such a large project.

Playground logic from adults. Of course there are legitimate use-cases for a trademark but this is pretty plainly not one of those.
