The English word for the capital of the Ukraine (not ‘Ukraine’!) is ‘Kiev,’ just like the English word for the capital of Italy (not Italia!) is ‘Rome,’ not ‘Roma,’ or like the English word for the successor state to the Ottoman Empire is ‘Turkey,’ not ‘Türkiye.’ There’s no need to use a foreign language’s words for the names of places where that language is spoken. Using the correct English word ‘Kiev’ in no way is any form of support for Russia’s evil war; it is simply a form of support for … correct English. |
