I think, probably, yes. 1984 is a useful novel; it's a criticism of human behavior on one level, it also tells us where we came from, and I think is still relevant and applicable to some nations today, who are still keeping citizens in relative poverty (even if some of them have iphones now) and swiping them for re-education; I definitely wouldn't be removing it from reading lists.
I think it fails to be an effective critique of the failings of the modern west (which it was never intended to be anyway).
I agree with you... I didn't mean this in a way that we need to put the book down but more in a way that the book is reality today and that we need to know where we are going next. It is probably my favorite book.
