I listened to a podcast recently about solarpunk and one of the most important comments that stuck with me was about how important it is to have optimistic fiction and that solarpunk stuff is a way to think of a better future world. I hadn't thought about that but it struck a chord since I wouldn't describe the futuristic stories I read as terribly optimistic. A link in case you're interested.
