>I know how I come across is my problem No, it's not: it's theirs. We are constantly being told that stereotyping is "very very bad": against women, gays, blacks, jews, asians and so on and on... but somehow negative connotations of white men - generally falsehood - are exempted from the possibility of being seen in a charitable light. |

But to me it's all about agency. I'm the one that has to deal with it, I'm the one suffering from it. The only agency I have is to change my behaviors and attitudes. Learn to live with it, learn to overcome it. I can't expect the world to change for me, so I need to change.
Without agency you just give up. Honestly I think the root of most of our countries social problems is that we've stopped believing in personal agency. I'm not a victim, I don't need special privileges to live my life.
I'm convinced that if more people picked themselves up by their bootstraps we wouldn't have nearly the number of social problems we have now.
Is it unfair? Sure. But life isn't fair. It's about playing the hand you were dealt as well as your can. I can't let myself get stuck in the trap of victimhood. I have agency here
