Check out "Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software" by Charles Petzold. It goes back to the earliest days of computation (Charles Babbage, etc.) and then shows how it evolved into computers we have today. It doesn’t talk about programming language history a lot, but shows how assembly works. |
