All of the old editors are horrible. Nano, vi, emacs... sure they might be conveniently placed, but are a pain to learn. This one is a vast improvement https://micro-editor.github.io/

Wha?! Nothing matches the power of vi or emacs. Nothing.

If you don't want the power, or don't need the tool, fine. I get that.

But calling vi terrible, is like complaining that a sledgehammer is terrible, because you want to hang a picture, and that's all you have.

That's the thing. I want to hang a picture.
That is why you use Emacs. It has `M-x picture-mode` and its successor, `M-x artist-mode'.
Or stay inside vi, and just filter your picture through the standard unix tool for hanging pictures.
right. I have no idea what that is.
It's a joke.
Have you tried Windows or macOS? They are really good at hanging pictures.
I thought we established we're using sledgehammers for that?
xD
Vi is not a sledgehammer, it’s more like laser cutter from dead space. It can both cut huge monsters and make laser cuts on your organs.
How is Nano an "old editor"? It was released just a bit more than 20 years ago...
Probably because it was an emulation of pico, which started another 10 years before that.

I started with pico and moved to nano.

It's a clone of pico, which is 33 years old.
I agree with you. The first UI I used on a computer was Volkov Commander, and maybe so, I'm really partial to mc and mcedit. Nano is tolerable, but vim, emacs are just so alien that I'll never touch them.
