I feel like the author casually states that a video terminal is not a screen without stating why? They are synonyms to me.

As in, the screen is the part that makes it a video terminal, as opposed to the ancient printer terminals.

(Also, what do you mean "casually states"? There's a long section detailing the history of the terminal right in the article, am I misunderstanding your question?)
