Saw this the other day, makes sense to me. If I ran Visa, I would hire a team of engineers to come up with ways we could be making money off of future cryptocurrency transactions, if only as a hedge against people using Visa less and to quiet down my noisy shareholders. I would call it something like "VISA CRYPTO THOUGHT LEADERSHIP" as well, that is a perfect name.
Absolutely; though a slightly more cynical take is "company that currently gatekeeps payments wants to 'help' system developed to escape their influence".
Company that has decades of experience running multi billion dollar global payments system has some ideas about what is important in running a global payments system.
Just to remember that a company is not a NGO, and that a company only purpose is to make money. So a company does not decide to improve the state of art, or help, provide free ideas of the target goal is not to get his share of the incomes.
Nobody is suggesting otherwise. Just saying that the full picture is more nuanced than your single paragraph summary would suggest. I get the cynicism but it’s not JUST that here.
The cryptocurrency space has done an actively terrible job up until this point at creating a global payments infrastructure that businesses are excited about using. They could use some help on that front. This is an organisation with a track record in doing exactly that.
