Ask HN: What open source monitoring tool do you use in AWS?

I'm looking to implement a monitoring solution for an AWS hosted application. I don't want to re-invent the wheel, and would like to focus my efforts on tools that are built to:

* Reconfigure easily based on elastic applications

* Flexible plugins and monitoring profiles which can easily be extended

Anyone have success / horror stories to share?
