In a same sex relationship, one parent will naturally not be the bio-parent. This seems to be the crux of the issue as there was no issue with the main couple in the article obtaining a Bulgarian passport.

It appears that the only source of contention around the Bulgarian passport was recognition of two mothers, which is a naturally impossible, the same can be said for gay men. In same sex households one of the parents in naturally an adoptive parent, unless the child is adopted by both and not biologically related at all (there probably is a process for that scenario already). Allowing anyone to be added as a parent will result in erasure of bio-parents. Everyone has a right to know their genetic/ family history.

Good point. Children can be born FOR same-sex couples, but not TO same sex couples.
