I occasionally work with a bunch of 'em. AIX, Solaris/SunOS, HP-UX, SCO, and a couple of others at various customers sites. They usually are just running some closed source service that is too expensive/impractical to replace, and aren't causing enough pain and suffering to anyone so there is no business case for replacing them. I like having them around. Sure, projects could be created to replace them with some modern webshit on Linux, but it would probably run into the tens of millions of euros, take years, and work less reliably than the shit that's been chugging along just fine for longer than I've worked in tech. |
