Fido keys work just fine on linux. There's already a fido authenticator that protects your keys using the system's TPM[0].

Thanks but a Fido device and/or TPM is NOT a solution:

It's precisely why my original comment says "I don't want any locked-down hardware to prevent me from accessing my own keys".

There are software only Fido implementations.
