An even better idea: Right now, the biggest address is 255.255.255.255. Why not just make it go up to 999.999.999.999? Problem solved!

Because on the wire it's encoded as four bytes. If you can make eight binary digits count up to 999, you can do a
lot
more than just make IPv4 last longer.
