I spent about a day trying to get it to produce some software that was moderately complex, with mixed results. My short answer to your question is that no, it is not a threat. The long answer is that it works well for some things, but needs a lot of direction and refinement, and I can’t see it being used by anyone BUT a software engineer to produce code. You need to know what to ask for, and when to correct it. I’d classify it as far below a junior level programmer. It can code a method or two but it can’t produce anything of great complexity that will work right away. It takes hours to coax it into producing what you want. That being said, in 5 years there’s going to be something much better. |
