I think broadening the applicant pool here means getting more underrepresented types applying rather than changing how you select them after they've applied. Just because you get additional, different people to apply does not mean you have to relax your admissions criteria; if anything, it's the opposite: you have more to choose from. If this is not what was meant by that phrase, then it's what should have been meant and I stand by my point anyhow. |
