I suspect you'll mostly get "Yes" because selection bias, so from me you get a "no". The IT industry is huge, and you can work on so many different problems (as I'm sure you know). I would find it hard to burn out on the whole thing. I mostly have on security. Not that I don't follow it, but 15 years ago I was deep on the state of the art front lines. But I found it too depressing to just work on preventing destruction, as opposed to actually constructing things. I still do the occasional security work, and proof of concepts, but that computer security career is now a road less travelled. If I did FIRE I would spend most of my time on opensource coding and such, which is not by day job. Which means even if I started hating my current job I'm not sick of the whole industry. But that's me. |
