Ask HN: Will Gmail spam filtering ever be fixed?

I've been getting a ton of spam on my gmail account for a while now and my curiosity led me right back to HN where apparently people have been noticing this for months already - as of 57 days ago. Did anything ever come of this thread? Will spam filtering ever be fixed on gmail? I always thought gmail spam filtering was supposed to be the best - is there a better option I should be considering?

For a long time that "spam filtering" has been something like those blue bubbles in iMessage. That is, a way to make sure that if you run your own email server, your friends on Gmail will never see your messages. In the long term it will get them in trouble with the antitrust courts so they have every reason to degrade its effectiveness.
