as someone on visa and survived the layoffs and who internally inquired on how the layoff logistics worked for employees on work visas. The answer is, the layoff is only effective 8 weeks from nov 9 , so something like Jan 10th, after which the countdown to find the new job begins (60 days for US, not sure about canadian work visa) So its not as bad as it sounds or portrayed by parent comment.
