I started learning in my late 20s. Am 36 now, and feel on top of my game. As in, I'm familiar with what tools are available, and am able to apply them to solve practical problems in several domains. I have never been able to do something well on the first few times, nor could I pass a coding interview, I speculate. Those might be more age dependent. But, through iterating, careful documentation, and choosing or writing clean APIs, I feel well-equipped. Some new tools really help - Rust in particular. And Vulkan, modern JS/CSS, modern ARM MCUs etc. I do feel... somewhat disconnected. Ie, my thoughts on what a good API or lib looks like is different from what I find most often in the OSS world. Not sure if that's age-related. I re-invent wheels. |
