Whenever there is a new subject I want to learn about, I find a support community for it and then start answering people's questions. In digging and pondering how to answer them, you are learning in a very practical and effective way. It's also win-win. You get to help someone else and you get to hone your craft. And if there are better answers, the more active the community the more feedback you will get from others. Obviously this works best if you are sincere and diligent in finding useful solutions and not just tossing out random crap - please don't do that.
