Have you taken a look at https://leekwars.com/? Still has a pretty active community, and the gameplay revolves around programming your 'Leek' to fight other leeks in a battle-bot type situation. The language you write the code in isn't python-like (it's called LeekScript), but it's easy to pick up. |
