>(I still miss the Computer Literacy bookstore)

I used to drive over Highway 17 from Santa Cruz just to visit the Computer Literacy store on N. First Street, near the San Jose airport. (The one on the Apple campus in Cupertino was good, too.)

Now, all of them—CL, Stacy's Books, Digital Guru—gone. Thanks, everyone who browsed in stores, then bought on Amazon to save a few bucks.

Won’t defend Amazon generally, but you need to blame private equity and skyrocketing real estate prices for the end of brick and mortar bookstores. And, for completeness, if we’re saying goodbye to great Silicon Valley bookstores of yore: A Clean Well Lighted Place For Books in Cupertino and the BookBuyers in Mountain View were also around 30 years ago, although they were more general. And strip mall ones like Waldenbooks still existed too.
