VCS could be a proxy for other issues, a (non-code) smell if you will. A company that calls itself a "startup" but is using SVN and PHP 5.6 (actual company that I evaluated and turned down last year) is not likely to produce a productive environment nor happy, satisfied workers. I wouldn't put either the VCS nor the laptop OS as a mandatory requirement, but rather as another straw on the camel's back. |
