Feedback Needed on a Mobile App Idea
1 points by hasanjessa 1333 days ago
I’m thinking about an idea for a mobile application and I wanted your advice. Here’s what it does:

According to research, 20 to 50 percent high school students go to college with no knowledge of what they should study. 75 percent of these students change their major more than once. I want to develop an app where college and high school students can get the guidance and assistance to help determine where their interests lie. The app will offer subscriptions and access to career/educational counselors from various backgrounds and professions, who will help these students decipher their abilities (through a detailed set of questions) and match them with majors best suited for them.

What do you think? Is it feasible?

Sounds like a good idea if it really does it's job. But also be aware it's not a money making app. I could imagine my younger self to use it but not if it costs money.

Also be aware it sounds like an aweful lot of work to get info on all majors in all universities and also find a way to categorize them for better searching. Even harder it will be to keep it up to date.

So if an app like this is your hearts desire and you want to invest a lot of time in service for the community, go for it.

Another question I must ask, why should it be an app? Sounds like a great idea for a blog where you do blog posts one week after another, focusing on advertising one major and where it could be studied each time.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. major reason for being an app is to create a two-way marketplace. The cost of one time counseling service will be kept low for a student to make sense paying for it. Definitely not a subscription model. Blog market seems to be oversaturated. Even currently having a hard time getting traffic and traction...
