Ask HN: How much can you influence what products your team has to use?

Hi everyone, I was wondering to what degree you can influence the product choices management makes.

I’ve heard both extremes from friends:

Some really shitty situations where the dev teams are forced to work with whatever product gets sold to management without getting engineers involved in the process at all.

Others, where dev teams can choose completely freely what products and services best fit their workflow but then have some integration issues between departments because everyone uses different tools.
