I'd tell you that your thought process is wrong, but fuck me I'm in the same boat.

What makes it worse is the general perception that money is just raining in tech and I'm somehow deficient for not making millions when "everyone else" is.

At least in many other industries like showbiz, people know it's hard to break in and make it. So expectations are set.

Wow, that hit hard "I'm somehow deficient for not making millions when "everyone else" is". This the same sentence/phrase all me relatives keep saying to me. They all think that, since I'm a Software Engineer, I should be making millions, or at least well above average, and if I'm not then I'm not trying hard enough.
